GOING THE DISTANCE: Natalia Vodianova and Agyness Deyn are about to get some competition in the marathon running department. Christy Turlington will be lacing up her sneakers to compete in the New York City Marathon Nov. 6. She and nine other friends and supporters will be covering the 26.2-mile course to raise awareness for Every Mother Counts, the organization she founded that aims to improve maternal and child health. Maybelline New York, Roberto Coin (two labels plugged by the supermodel) and Lifeway Foods have signed on as sponsors.

Turlington said she has run off and on throughout her life but, until recently, six miles was the max. With her husband, Ed Burns, busy during the week starring in the upcoming flick “I, Alex Cross,” Turlington said she can now leave him to tend to their two children “guilt-free” when she ventures out for a 21-mile run during the weekend.

Having already raised $70,000 for her cause, she mentioned one or two other upsides to marathon training. “One thing you have to do is carb-loading. That is something I had always heard about but never really knew what it involved,” she said. “It’s kind of nice to say you have to eat carbs. That’s my job right now.”

That isn’t the only one she is working on. Her own film, “No Woman, No Cry,” will be available on DVD Dec. 6 through OWN and Virgil Entertainment. And after years of appearing in Calvin Klein Eternity commercials, she seems to be switching camps. Turlington just shot an ad campaign for Donna Karan’s new fragrance, “Woman.”

New Yorkers witnessed an invasion of epic proportions when the Brazil Foundation took over the main branch of the public library to host their ninth annual benefit gala on Monday night. The building’s majestic lobby was transformed by a sea of color, silk, and bright smiles as guests Stavros Niarchos, Jessica Hart, Zani Gugelmann, Alejandro Santo Domingo, Julie Henderson, and Tamara Mellon congregated for cocktails while DJ Chelsea Leyland played from the balcony above. Everywhere you looked, another stunning face emerged from the crowd, including models Izabel Goulart, Alessandra Ambrosio, Isabeli Fontana, and Ana Beatriz Barros. ‘This wouldn’t be a proper Brazilian party without Victoria’s Secret models,’ laughed Lauren Remington Platt, who, attending as a guest of Valentino Garavani, looked resplendent in one of his signature red gowns.

Post-cocktails, guests migrated to the ballroom for a seated dinner. Though the crowd numbered in the hundreds, it seemed as if everyone knew one another as they mingled through the maze of tables. Andrea Dellal, the chair of the benefit gala, was surrounded by her children at one table, while Osklen designer Oskar Metsavaht caught up with friends, and Amanda Hearst chatted with Luigi Tadini and the stunning Brazilian actress, Luisa Moraes. When guests finally took their seats, Alice Dellal and Pedro Andrade took to the stage as the emcees for the evening’s awards ceremony. Andrea then joined her daughter to welcome the award recipients and guest speakers, including Carlos Saldanha (the director of the animated Rio), Jesse Eisenberg, and Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo. One of the evening’s most poignant moments came when Valentino presented Natalia Vodianova with the Brazil Foundation’s International Philanthropy Award. The award recognized the recent expansion of Vodianova’s Naked Heart Foundation from Russia into Brazil, where it will seek to provide Brazilian children with safe playgrounds. ‘Tonight I am so glad I can contribute to the country I love so much,’ said the model, who wore a deep-red velvet gown by Valentino. ‘I know how incredible the people are and how the children there, like Russian children, deserve the gift of play.’

In true Latin form, the party continued late into the night with a special performance by Brazilian singer Preta Gil and an after-party at the Hotel Americano, deejayed by Julio Santo Domingo and Vivi Seixas.

Like white birds against the green lawns, fashion’s high society migrated to Valentino’s chateau outside of Paris. The summer dress code of silver and white was designed to blend into the snowy scene, as the transparent tent under towering trees was opened for the White Fairy Tale Love Ball.

Natalia Vodianova, the Russian model and dedicated fund-raiser, made her entrance in a blood-red Valentino gown, the better to underscore her Naked Heart Foundation. The charity, dedicated to building playgrounds for impoverished children, mainly in Russia, raised €2.3 million, or $3.3 million, from the festivities Wednesday. And an emotional Ms. Vodianova announced that her charity would take on a second role: developing play places for special needs children like her own sister.

Couture designers blessed the event with dresses expressing their vision of a fairy tale, outfits worn by models on a the runway sprinkled with fake snow and later auctioned off.

Many of the designers had gathered earlier in the evening, first at the Élysée Palace, where President Nicolas Sarkozy presented the award of Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur to Anna Wintour, the editor of American Vogue; and afterward at the reception at the U.S. Embassy in Paris, where the lineup of guests was a who’s who of fashion.

ROARING AHEAD: Riccardo Tisci’s fall collections for Givenchy — which featured snarling Rottweiler prints for him, panthers for her — inspired a campaign with equal ferocity. Naomi Campbell and Natalia Vodianova are among models who posed on printed cushions — one at a time, not in a gang as Tisci usually prefers — and roared for the lens of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Tisci described the women’s spots as “dark 1950s pinups,” while the men’s campaign has a touch of “Jerry Lewis combined with American sportswear.” The media buy is described as on par with last season, with the images breaking in select September fashion titles.
