Supermodel Natalia Vodianova was in her native Russia, in Yekaterinburg to help launch Louis Vuitton’s fourth store in the country. While the setting was haute couture, the spirit was philanthropy as the famed malletier announced its support for Vodianova’s Naked Heart Foundation. The foundation is dedicated to providing a safe and conducive environment to play for every child in urban Russia.

Vodianova says she was inspired to start the foundation by the Beslan tragedy and by her own experiences growing up poor in Russia. Louis Vuitton is playing its part in the foundation’s efforts by funding the construction of playgrounds in Russia, including a new garden in Yekaterinburg.

CNN posted an article about Natalia’s Naked Heart Foundation.

Natalia Vodianova is best known as the supermodel who has graced the cover of Vogue, walked the catwalk for the likes of Chanel and Versace.

But Vodianova has a dream that couldn’t be further from the glitzy world of fashion — to build 500 play parks in her native Russia.

Vodianova, born and raised in Russia, was in the country during the 2004 Beslan school siege, in which at least 339 hostages, around half of them children, were killed.

Deeply affected by the tragedy she returned to New York, where she was living at the time, determined to do something to help the surviving children.

Vodianova organized a fundraising event that generated $350,000 to build the children a playground and she founded her charity, the “Naked Heart Foundation.”

On May 7, Natalia will appear on the CNN show My City My Life where she will show the camera her personal favorite places in Moscow and speak about her childhood, family and career mode. Here’s an excerpt from that interview:

CNN: How would you describe Moscow?
NV: It’s a city of contrasts. You have this great culture and traditions that are very normal, calm and established. And then you have explosion of emotion, of craziness, of art and young people who are so proud to be Muscovites and really trying to be individuals.

CNN: What’s the fashion in Moscow?
NV: You see women in jeans wearing very high heels and a short Puffy jacket. It’s really funny!
